Role of Sports Activities in Students Life


Sport is a pertinent part of a student's growth and development. It helps in the development of both mental health and physical fitness of the body. It is evident deriving to infer that through sports and game students gain various skills, experience and confidence that are essential for the mind and personality development.

Virtually in every school in this contemporary across the globe, sports are an important part of the curriculum. Some of the sports perform in college/university include cricket, football, badminton, table tennis, basket, volleyball, etc.

Importance of sports in the student's life can be captured and discussed under the following.

1.     Improves physical and mental being of student's
One of the outstanding benefits of sports is that it boosts the physical and mental fitness. Participation in sports increases mental activeness and accelerate the extent of mental engagement. Outdoor games such as football, cricket, and basketball make the student be mentally active and consciously engage while Indoor game like chess, Scrabble, badminton elevate students concentration and intellectual tactics.

While a sport doesn’t only develop the mental ability, it equally develops the life skills of student's personality. It enhances the social life of students. For example, it helps students to learn the good act of communication and interaction with their age mates and adults alike.

Constructive use of time is, of course, one is of the basic characteristics of sports.  Sports, therefore, helps students master the act of good time management in their dealing and life activities. And more so the game of sports involves rules and regulations which attract discipline upon default. Hence, such regulations in sports help students to develop a well-disciplined mind and show robust commitment in every of his/her activities that demand one.

4.     Promote leadership and team spirit

Being that sports suggest that students appear before a crowd of spectators most characteristically dominated by fans with a single expectation of victory, sports help students to develop self-confidence and believe in their ability to secure victory in all their endeavours irrespective of differences.
